WORK has begun on a £2.8m redevelopment project at Llantrisant Leisure Centre in Mid Glamorgan. Development partner Alliance Leisure, appointed by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, is carrying out the centre’s refurbishment with specialist leisure design and build contractor Createability who then appointed local painting contractor Weston Painting Contractors Ltd.
The two stage redevelopment will see the leisure centre totally overhauled. Phase one includes the development of a 90-station, 450 sqm family fitness suite in an existing small hall. The suite will boast state of the art equipment including interactive bikes, dance mats and the first Life Fitness ‘Synrgy’ functional equipment in South Wales.
Two multi-purpose studios will be created on a mezzanine floor above the fitness suite. The rooms will also double as conferencing facilities for the centre and the larger suite will have a sprung floor to reduce impact during exercise. The new facilities, as well as refurbished dry side changing rooms, will open later this month. Phase two, a remodelled wet side changing village, new reception and cafe area are due to open next March.
